Meals on Wheels Program

BCH’s dietary department undertook an ambitious initiative beginning April 1, 2001 when the Southtowns Meals on Wheels program expands to serve senior citizens and homebound residents in the towns of Boston, Colden, Concord, and Holland, N.Y.

The department, headed by Food Service Director Kristine Aldrow will be cooking ALL the meals for the program.

This community service will be in addition to the department’s important work of providing meals for all BCH/JBR patients, residents, employees, and visitors.

A community-wide, volunteer effort, Southtowns Meals on Wheels is in the process of compiling a list of people who need the service.

Anyone who would like to receive the service or volunteer to help out is encouraged to contact the representative in his or her area:

Boston – Michelle McMahon, 941-0062; Colden – Beth Troy, 941-0430; Holland – Jackie Sigeti, 537-3802. Lisa Rood, Boston supervisor is coordinating the effort.

The program provides a hot meal at noontime when delivery is made and a cold supper to be refrigerated until needed. A big hats off to Kristine and her dedicated staff for taking part in such an important and worthwhile program.

It takes a lot of work and a lot of heart.
